Student review of Brandon Brown quiere un perro
If you like adventure you should read “Brandon Brown quiere un perro.” It’s pretty self explanatory. It’s about a boy named Brandon Brown and like the name says, Brandon wants a dog, but when he asks his mom she says no. It’s because taking care of a dog is a “big responsibility.”
Brandon goes to a park with his friend Jake and and Jake has a dog. Later Brandon finds a dog and it’s lost so Brandon takes him in and his mom doesn’t know about it and he wants it to stay that way. Brandon finds out that it’s really hard to take care of a dog and has some troubles to go along with it.
This book was great to read again and I give it a 9.5 out of 10 and I recommend it to anyone who wants adventure.
Student book review of La estatua by Jeremy Señor Jordan
The little pictures that were in between some of the pages were nice. It was good to visually see the story and the book came alive when there was at least one illustration of the text for each chapter. The chapters were sweet and short. The words were mostly simple so the basis of the story and what Lola goes through was easy to understand. The glossary at the back of the book was very helpful as far as unknown vocabulary!
Our favorite character is the dog. Even though the dog played a small roll, the illustrations of the dog were cute. Our favorite scene was the deja vu scene.
If you like a plot line with a cliffhanger at the end, then you’ll love this book!
Student review of the novel “Superburguesas”
Spanish teacher Katie Sevilla wrote about her student Ahmani’s reaction to Superburguesas: “I just wanted to tell you that I have a copy of your book in my FVR library. I had my kids do an “evaluacion de libros” today. We are coming down to the end of the semester and so I wanted to have them do something to show what they have been reading during FVR time. They could do a video or make a poster and present it. I had a girl who did Superburguesas. She made a slide of a few pics of the characters (Fifi, Rodney, Sr. Superburguesas, etc.). Then she went into MAJOR detail about what happened ALL OFF THE TOP OF HER HEAD, no script, NOT a native Spanish speaker (level 3)! It was amazing. I had a member of our admin observing and he was blown away! So great. She obviously loved the book! Now the rest of the kids want to read it! She was so excited about this book. I wish I had videotaped it! Thanks again for the great read!!!”
The author responded: That is wonderful!!! I am currently writing and illustrating a graphic novel prequel to Superburguesas that explains the whole backstory behind Jessica, her dad and how Rodney came into their lives. It will be available in the summer of 2018. In the photo to the right you can see me with the presidenta of our Spanish Club who helped write the novel when she was a freshman. Our class had such a good time writing it that they went on to become some of my best students ever… I am happy that the novel is as fun to read as it was to write!

student review of Pobre Ana
Pobre Ana is a very good book that I would recommend to just about everyone. In Pobre Ana most of the words aren’t very hard but if you stumble upon one you can look in the glossary. This is a light hearted story of a young girl named Ana who has a tough life. Ana’s mom always seems to be on her and her family doesn’t have a lot of money. Ana’s always been jealous of her rich friends too. This all changes when she takes up an opportunity to go to Mexico and there she sees how fortunate she really is. In this book you learn quite a bit of Spanish and have fun reading this short and sweet novel.
student review of El Escape Cubano
One day Brandon goes to the park with his friend Jake. At the park they find a dog, yay, Brandon always wanted a dog. Brandon brings it home and quickly finds out that dogs have many problems! What will he do now?
Tu amiga,
Carol
